Rocket attacks on US military bases in Iraq
In the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, several rocket attacks have been carried out near the US embassy at the US Embassy in which no casualties were reported.
According to foreign news agency AFP, coalition spokesman Miles Coggins said small rocket attacks were confirmed at an Iraqi military base hosting coalition forces in the International Zone, with no casualties.
It is known as Military Base Union 3, the headquarters of US-led coalition forces deployed in Iraq since 2014 to help local forces deal with ISIS extremists.
According to the Iraqi military, three kitsuyashi rockets were fired in the highest-security green zone where US missions and Union Territories are located, as well as Iraqi government buildings, UN offices and other embassies.
The Iraqi military statement said that the fourth rocket was fired at another location used by the military network Hashd al-Shababi, but no statement has been released immediately by Hashd al-Shababi yet.
Simultaneous attacks on Hashd and the US military assets are unusual because the US has often been accused of attacks on its installations by elements such as Hashid in the military.
This is the 19th attack since October last year, targeting 5,200 US troops stationed in the US Embassy or Iraq with the local army.
So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In December, a US contractor was killed in a rocket attack on military base 1 in eastern Iraq, with a dramatic change in the situation in Iraq.
The United States responded to the attacks by attacking Hizbullah's extremist group, Kibbat Hezbollah, in western Iraq.
A few days after the operation, US military commander Qasim Sulaimani and his accomplice and Hashd's deputy chief Abu Abu Mahdi al-Mahindas were killed in a US drone strike.
Hashid, meanwhile, vowed to avenge the US invasion, but said his preferred political solution was the withdrawal of the US military from Iraq.
The attack was carried out on Sunday, just hours before Iran-backed Hashd's faction Haram al-Njubi announced that the days of withdrawal of US forces from Iraq had been numbered.
